The Central Valley Hawks''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 39-29 to Atwater. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central Valley in their matchups with Atwater: they've now lost five in a row.
Central Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Darrius Jackson, who threw for 161 yards and a touchdown while completing 88.9% of his passes. Amir Drakeford also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Atwater's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Landon Perez, who rushed for 59 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown. Perez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. James Bell was another key contributor, throwing for 161 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Central Valley now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Atwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Central Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Merced at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Merced presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Central Valley in California (Merced is ranked 168th, while Central Valley is ranked 577th). Atwater does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
