Softball Game Preview: Central Red Devils vs. Opelika Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Central will face off against Opelika. The Red Devils will square off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central has 14 straight victories, Opelika has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Central's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Opelika with a sharp 10-0 win. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 19 contests by six runs or more this season.

Allyson Supan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March.

In other batting news, Gerritt Griggs was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Hammock, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Central's victory was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 31-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Opelika, their loss dropped their record down to 14-16.
