The Highland Huskies pushed their score all the way to 71 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-71 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mount Academy. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 362nd, while Mount Academy is ranked 141st).
Mount Academy was led to victory by Jake Maendel and Dennis Hofer. Maendel scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, while Hofer scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Maendel has scored at least 25% of Mount Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Donovan Baird, who scored 11 points along with five steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Highland and nudges their season record down to 3-4. As for Mount Academy, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland is on the road again on Friday and play against Ellenville at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. As for Mount Academy, they will take on Millbrook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Millbrook knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Mount Academy likes a good challenge.
