The Holmes Huskies will take on the Harlan Hawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Holmes is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Sotomayor by a score of 18-17 on Friday.
Hannah Melendez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her six plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Alison Silva was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Even though they lost, Holmes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Harlan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Marshall with a sharp 11-2 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won six in a row.
Savannah Cuadra and Gabby Gutierrez dominated on the mound. Cuadra tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Gutierrez tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Cuadra a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
At the plate, Lilly Campos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lauren Vallery, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Harlan's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Holmes, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5.
Holmes took their victory against Harlan in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2. Will Holmes repeat their success, or does Harlan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
