The Lee Park Prep Knights will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Concord Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Lee Park Prep made easy work of Gaston Christian and carried off a 16-1 win. The Knights have beaten the Eagles the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Lee Park Prep let Addison Laney and Nevaeh Alexander run wild. Laney went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Alexander scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most RBI Laney has posted since back in March of 2024. Avery Rushing was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Lee Park Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gaston Christian only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Concord Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Piedmont Community Charter 7-5. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly two runs.
Caisyn Berg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Izzy Williams was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Carmean, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
The win made it two in a row for Concord Academy and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Lee Park Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
Lee Park Prep suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to Concord Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2023. Can Lee Park Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
