The Covenant Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Christchurch School Seahorses at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Covenant will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Saturday, Covenant faced Greenbrier Christian Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Covenant walked away with a 40-29 win over Greenbrier Christian Academy. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Covenant's one-point performance the match before.
Jonathan Newton had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 433 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 19.7 yards per carry. Newton really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run.
Another reason for the win was Covenant's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Greenbrier Christian Academy's QB won't forget Alyx Mcwilliams anytime soon given Mcwilliams sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Christchurch School's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They fell 28-18 to Virginia Episcopal School.
Covenant's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-3. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Greenbrier Christian Academy, Chincoteague, and Quantico. As for Christchurch School, their loss dropped their record down to 5-1.
Covenant came up short against Christchurch School when the teams last played back in September, falling 48-42. Can Covenant avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
