The Esparto Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 73-22 loss at the hands of Rio Vista. Esparto has not had much luck with Rio Vista recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Esparto lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Angel Torres, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Andre Oliver was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Ashlynd Rhett continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rio Vista, scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Rhett has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joseph Flaz, who scored six points along with six steals.
Esparto dropped their record down to 1-19 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Rio Vista, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Esparto will take on San Juan at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. San Juan comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Rio Vista will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Vacaville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th.
