The Grandview Wolves will venture away from home to take on the Cherry Creek Bruins at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Grandview comes in on nine and Cherry Creek on 15.
On Saturday, Grandview got the win against Smoky Hill by a conclusive 11-3. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Chase Chapman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Kyle Cacciavillani was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Cherry Creek faced Arapahoe in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bruins were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Warriors.
Cherry Creek also got a great performance from Wyatt Rudden as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Rudden has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Connor Larkin and Sean Klaess did most of the damage at the plate: Larkin went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Klaess went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Walker Rudden, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Cherry Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arapahoe only posted an OBP of .316.
Cherry Creek pushed their record up to 16-4-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Grandview, their record is now 18-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Grandview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cherry Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Grandview couldn't quite finish off Cherry Creek in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
