Basketball Recap: Avery County Piles Up the Points Against Owen

Avery County won the last time they faced Owen and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Avery County Vikings blew past the Owen Warhorses 65-20. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Avery County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adyson Dellinger, who went 6 for 14 en route to 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those 13 points gave Dellinger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Matilda Carver, who posted 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Avery County was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Owen's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elly Wright, who scored seven points and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Mercurio, who put up five points.

The victory made it two in a row for Avery County and bumps their season record up to 12-5. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-17 Owen and 5-9 Rosman. As for Owen, their loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-17.

Avery County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-50 defeat against Mountain Heritage on the 31st. As for Owen, they have also already played their next match, a 48-43 loss against Rosman on the 31st.
