The Bellwood-Antis Blue Devils will square off against the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bellwood-Antis will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Bellwood-Antis blew Philipsburg-Osceola out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Philipsburg-Osceola got their revenge. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Mountaineers by a score of 31-28. While the Blue Devils had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Mountaineers 14-7.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Alex McCartney and Colton Chapman. Chapman had a great game and rushed for 182 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Meanwhile, McCartney did his best for the losing side, rushing for 103 yards and two TDs.
Meanwhile, Bishop Guilfoyle came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the Golden Eagles a 26-0 shutout. Considering the Marauders have won four contests by more than 23 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The critical scores for Bishop Guilfoyle came from Jack Gioiosa, Connor Okonak, and Keegan Hewitt.
Bishop Guilfoyle didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Tyrone to a completion percentage of just 36.8%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Jake Kissell, Gioiosa, and Jake Marasco, who each logged one passes deflected. Bishop Guilfoyle has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.63 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.63 in their last three games.
Bishop Guilfoyle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gioiosa and Tyson Lestochi. Bishop Guilfoyle got some further help from Kissell: he picked up a sack, made 14 total tackles (3.0 for loss), and defended one pass.
Bellwood-Antis' defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Bishop Guilfoyle, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Bellwood-Antis was dealt a bruising 41-12 loss at the hands of Bishop Guilfoyle in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Blue Devils were down 28-0.
