Covina is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the Chino Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Covina was handed a 35-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 28-27 photo finish over Santa Fe.

Matt Olivas
09/26/25 vs Santa Fe | 179 |
09/19/25 vs Northview | 65 |
09/05/25 @ Diamond Ranch | 34 |
08/28/25 @ Baldwin Park | 127 |
Covina had a senior duo take command as Roy Vazquez threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns and Matt Olivas picked up 179 receiving yards and three TDs. With that strong performance, Olivas is now averaging an impressive 101.2 receiving yards per game.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chino). They blew past Don Lugo 34-7 last Friday. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 21-0.
Covina better keep an eye on Raymond Chia. He was instrumental in Chino's win, rushing for 216 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. The dominant performance also gave Chia a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).
Chino's run defense was locked in: Don Lugo could only muster two yards per carry. The Cowboys didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.1.
Covina now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Chino, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Covina has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 373.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Chino, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 246.6 total yards. Will Covina be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Cowboys flip the script?
Covina couldn't quite get it done against Chino when the teams last played back in November of 2024 as they fell 28-21. Thankfully for the Colts, Maximus Barroso (who threw for 124 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
