The Payson Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Skyline Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.
Payson lost 3-0 to Maple Mountain on Tuesday. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
The final score came out to 25-12, 25-17, 25-15.
Meanwhile, Skyline came up short against Brighton on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The Eagles have struggled against the Bengals recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
While Skyline had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-20, 25-19.
Payson will have to keep a close watch on Kai Carlton and Mars Killen, a pair of players who had a big impact on Skyline's prior game. Carlton had 11 digs and two aces, while Killen had 11 kills, four digs, two aces, and one block. Killen has been hot for a while, having posted seven or more kills the last 14 times he's played.
Payson's loss dropped their record down to 11-14. As for Skyline, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Payson came out on top in a nail-biter against Skyline in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
