Ganado extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 10-13 in the process. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the St. Michael Cardinals 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since March 6, 2024.
Shawntaya Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered eight earned runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, Ganado got a massive performance out of Anisa Esparza, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple was Esparza's first of the season. Alaiya Begay was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ganado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
As for St. Michael, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered since March 20th.
On St. Michael's side, Denea Livingston put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Livingston has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Shannon Paul made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Rhyley Meyers, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Ganado does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Michael, they will be playing at home against Pinon at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.33 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
