Portsmouth and South Point are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Trojans will take on the Pointers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Portsmouth got the win against Fairland by a conclusive 14-3. The Trojans have beaten the Dragons the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Dragons has come to flipping the script.

Katie Ankrom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gigi Bedard and Madison Boren did most of the damage at the plate: Bedard went 4-for-5 with one home run and five RBI, while Boren went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs Boren has posted since back in March. Evanie Wampler-McKinley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Portsmouth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
South Point came out on top against Chesapeake on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Pointers never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win.
Kota Copley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Copley was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kyleigh Castle was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Raygen Yates, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
The victory got Portsmouth back to even at 11-11. As for South Point, their record now sits at 17-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Portsmouth hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like South Point struggles in that department as they've averaged .379. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Portsmouth came up short against South Point when the teams last played back in April, falling 11-6. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
