The Southwest Roughriders were the 57-44 winner over the Alma Cardinals when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Southwest fell 50-41 to Alma on Tuesday. Southwest has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Southwest saw an underclassman step up: Anikka Nelms scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anastasia Gallegos, who scored four points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Alma's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addison Siebels, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and four steals. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for Siebels. Another player making a difference was Tierston Moore, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals.
Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Alma, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southwest is on the road again on Friday and play against Arapahoe. As for Alma, they will square off against Red Cloud at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
