The Burgettstown Blue Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Madonna Blue Dons at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
On Monday, Burgettstown came up short against Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and fell 5-2.
Evelyn Lehman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Madelina Guiddy was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Andi Midler, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Madonna came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Dragons an 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Dons, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Conley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Kendal Ryan was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Madonna kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.
Madonna's record is now 16-3. As for Burgettstown, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burgettstown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .319. However, it's not like Madonna struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burgettstown couldn't quite finish off Madonna in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
