The Greater Cabarrus S Stallions will head out to challenge the Forsyth Home Educators Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, it was close, but Greater Cabarrus S sidestepped Union Preparatory for a 7-5 win.
Natalie Gardner made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Gardner was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Greater Cabarrus S let Zoe Wagner and Aydin Saavedra run wild. Wagner went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Saavedra scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. That triple was Wagner's first of the season. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Bruckler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
Meanwhile, Forsyth Home Educators waltzed into their match on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Conquerors.
Emma Groce was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Beaver, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Forsyth Home Educators was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Forsyth Home Educators' win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Greater Cabarrus S, their record is now 3-7.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greater Cabarrus S hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Forsyth Home Educators struggles in that department as they've averaged .349.
