The Wheaton North Falcons will venture away from home to take on the St. Charles East Fighting Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Wheaton North is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: Oswego, who was ranked fourth at the time (Wheaton North was ranked fifth). The Falcons fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 14-12 on Tuesday. Even if the Falcons couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Reagan Crosthwaite made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Hammer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, St. Charles East entered their tilt with Glenbard North on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 14-10 victory over the Panthers. With that win, the Fighting Saints brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Makayla Van Dinther made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up five earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Van Dinther was also big at the plate, getting three hits from her four at bats. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Addison Wolf was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Hayden Sujack, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
St. Charles East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in three consecutive games.
This is the second loss in a row for Wheaton North and nudges their season record down to 17-4. As for St. Charles East, their record now sits at 15-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Wheaton North hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Charles East struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Wheaton North was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Charles East in their previous matchup back in April, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
