After flying high against Westminster Christian Academy last Tuesday, the Capitol Lions came back down to earth. Capitol was just a bucket shy of victory on Monday and fell 30-29 to GEO Next Generation.
GEO Next Generation got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Khloe Caines out in front who scored a point along with 17 rebounds and six steals. Kimberly Jack was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Capitol has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for GEO Next Generation, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-7.
Capitol will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Plaquemine at 6:00 p.m. Plaquemine presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Capitol in Louisiana (Plaquemine is ranked 79th, while Capitol is ranked 268th). GEO Next Generation won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Live Oak at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Live Oak is on a four-game streak of home wins, GEO Next Generation a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
