The Libertyville Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Glenbrook South Titans at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Libertyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Libertyville fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Mundelein on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 6-5. Surprisingly, this marked the Wildcats' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Cole Lockwood was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. Ryan Wilberding was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Glenbrook South let Deerfield stack four runs on them in the fifth inning on Thursday but luckily Glenbrook South prevailed anyway. The Titans walked away with a 7-4 win over the Warriors. Surprisingly, this marked the Titans' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Everett Perschall tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Kevin Garden was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of James Dooman, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Glenbrook South's record is now 8-10. As for Libertyville, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Libertyville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Glenbrook South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Libertyville came out on top in a nail-biter against Glenbrook South in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
