The Shadow Mountain Matadors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their 20th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 42-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Canyon. Shadow Mountain lost against North Canyon in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-10 score last time.
Shadow Mountain's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Brinley Lensch, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds, and Cheyenne Hanna who scored five points along with six steals.
Leading North Canyon to victory were Ava Adams and Trinity King. Adams scored 12 points along with nine steals and seven rebounds, while King scored 14 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. The contest was Adams' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lanaya McCloud, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Shadow Mountain's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-2. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.8 points per game. As for North Canyon, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shadow Mountain will square off against Westwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Shadow Mountain in Arizona (Westwood is ranked 97th, while Shadow Mountain is ranked 243rd). North Canyon will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Ironwood at 7:00 p.m. on December 4th.
