The New Hanover Wildcats put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past South Brunswick 68-32 on the road. New Hanover has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 matchups by 21 points or more this season.
New Hanover was led to victory by Kam Witherspoon and Jazir Wright-McGhee. Witherspoon scored 12 points along with six rebounds, while Wright-McGhee scored 16 points. It was the first time this season that Wright-McGhee scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Billings, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
South Brunswick's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jayden Daniels, who scored 12 points, and Kaleb Young who scored seven points. Young continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
South Brunswick struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as New Hanover pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
New Hanover's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0. As for South Brunswick, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Hanover will challenge the Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Brunswick will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Wildcats are ranked fifth). As for South Brunswick, they will head out on the road to face off against the Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Laney focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
