Baseball Recap: Sterling Victorious

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Sterling ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past the Eaton Reds 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted against the Reds since March 26, 2019.

Dayten DiOrio and Ethan Felzien were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, DiOrio tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Felzien pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. DiOrio has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, DiOrio scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances, while Felzien went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Memphis Dempcy was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caysen Bamford, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Sterling kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Sterling pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Eaton, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-3.

Looking ahead, Sterling will head out on the road to square off against Arvada at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Eaton, they will host University on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Reds 3.4, the Bulldogs 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
