Basketball Game Preview: Chatham Central Bears vs. Cummings Cavaliers

The Chatham Central Bears will head out to take on the Cummings Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chatham Central will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Friday, Chatham Central made easy work of Graham and carried off an 81-59 victory. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Red Devils are ranked 564th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Chatham Central's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Reid Albright, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds, and Brennen Oldham, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 18 points along with eight assists and seven boards. Albright's evening made it 14 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Luke Gaines was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five assists and three steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Chatham Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 27 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Cummings took a blow against Northeast Guilford on Thursday, falling 60-32.

Chatham Central's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.6 points per game. As for Cummings, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Chatham Central strolled past Cummings in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 55-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chatham Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
