After a string of three wins, the Fowler Grizzlies's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 54-37 bruising from Hoehne. Fowler found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post eight fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Fowler saw an underclassman step up: Jaslyn Bates scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bates has scored all season. Gracie Osborne was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Hoehne's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ellegra Gutierrez, who scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Gutierrez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Phoenix San Roman, who scored 13 points along with eight steals.
Fowler's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7. As for Hoehne, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fowler will take on Limon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hoehne, they will be playing at home against Del Norte at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
