If the Bennington Bulldogs were feeling good off their 65-44 takedown of the St. John's/Tipton Catholic Blujays last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Bennington took a 52-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sterling. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bennington has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Bennington lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Eli Lawson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds. Lawson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last seven games he's played. Kian Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Bennington's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3. As for Sterling, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bennington's road trip will continue as they head out to face Trinity at 4:30 p.m. on January 30th. Trinity will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Bennington is ranked 45th). As for Sterling, they will head out on the road to face off against Remington at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
