The Whitmer Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Monday as they easily beat Southview 56-18 on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 32-7.
Whitmer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jada Shoup led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Shoup has scored at least 25% of Whitmer's points. Mackenzie Royal-davis was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mikayla Dorn, who scored four points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Whitmer and bumps their season record up to 9-4. As for Southview, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
Whitmer will square off against Walsh Jesuit at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Walsh Jesuit will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Whitmer is ranked 121st). As for Southview, they will be playing at home against Springfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Springfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
