Carey has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Columbus Grove Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Carey extended their postseason success on Friday against Columbia. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Raiders 48-0 at home. Given Carey's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Columbia is ranked 299th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Columbus Grove came tearing into Friday's matchup with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to Black River for the full four quarters, racking up a 34-6 victory at home. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Columbus Grove had established a 21 point advantage.
Columbus Grove can attribute much of their success to Trenton Barraza, who gained 142 total yards and two touchdowns, and Landon Best, who rushed for 96 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Barraza hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for eight straight games.
Carey's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. As for Columbus Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.
Carey lost to Columbus Grove on the road by a decisive 21-7 margin in their previous meeting back in November of 2018. Can Carey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
