Jac-Cen-Del is 9-1 against South Decatur since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Eagles will look to defend their home field against the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. Jac-Cen-Del is looking for their season's first win.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last five times Jac-Cen-Del and South Ripley have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Monday. The Eagles fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 8-7.
Savannah Steele was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Those RBI were her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Comer, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, South Decatur got themselves on the board against Crothersville on Monday, but Crothersville never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Tigers. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
Riley Benge made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, South Decatur let Dalilah Martin and Daisy Martin run wild. Dalilah went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Daisy went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Lilly Murray was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
South Decatur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .655. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
South Decatur has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Jac-Cen-Del, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-14.
Everything went Jac-Cen-Del's way against South Decatur in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, as Jac-Cen-Del made off with a 16-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
