Troy is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Line Mountain is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Troy Trojans will take on the Line Mountain Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, while Troy put up plenty of points, the same can't be said for Hughesville. Troy blew past Hughesville 36-0 at home. Given Troy's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Hughesville is ranked 416th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Troy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clayton Smith, who rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Woodward, who threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns while completing 91.7% of his passes.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Line Mountain walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 46-23 margin over Towanda.
Line Mountain's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Bates, who rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Nolan Baumert was another key contributor, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Line Mountain's defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Maxim Johnson.
Their wins bumped Troy to 11-0 and Line Mountain to 9-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Troy has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 259.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Line Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging 219.9 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches. Troy beat Line Mountain 27-14 in their previous matchup back in November of 2019. Will Troy repeat their success, or does Line Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
