Calaveras has gone 10-0 against Linden recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Calaveras Red Hawks will challenge the Linden Lions at 7:15 p.m. One thing working in Calaveras' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
Calaveras is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Bret Harte just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Bullfrogs by a score of 60-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Red Hawks have suffered since November 28, 2023.
Despite the defeat, Calaveras saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cohen Curran went 7 of 8 en route to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Josh Manzo, who posted eight points and 11 boards.
Even though they lost, Calaveras smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Linden hadn't done well against Summerville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Linden walked away with a 57-44 victory over Summerville.
Calaveras better keep an eye on Will Hubbart. He was instrumental in Linden's win, putting up 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Busalacchi, who had 12 points.
Linden's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Calaveras, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 12-8.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Calaveras and Linden are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Calaveras hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.1 points per game. However, it's not like Linden struggles in that department as they've been averaging 58.3 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Calaveras beat Linden 57-49 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Calaveras since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
