East Hamilton and Ooltewah are an even 4-4 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Hurricanes will host the Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. East Hamilton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Ooltewah likes a good challenge.
East Hamilton easily dispatched Rhea County last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Hurricanes fell just short of Walker Valley by a score of 40-37 on Friday. The Hurricanes gained 340 more yards on the day, but it was the Mustangs that made the best use of them.
Despite their defeat, East Hamilton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaden Haywood, who picked up 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 112 yards, was perhaps the best of all. Haywood was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield on a catch that went for 61 yards. Another passer making a difference was Wyatt Miller, who threw for 341 yards and five TDs while picking up 13.1 yards per attempt.
Meanwhile, Ooltewah was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 35-23 hit to the loss column at the hands of Soddy Daisy.
Like East Hamilton, Ooltewah lost despite seeing results from several players. Griffin Patterson led the charge by picking up 97 receiving yards and one score, while also punching in one rushing score. Rhylon Hinton was another key player, throwing for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes.
Ooltewah's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for East Hamilton, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. East Hamilton has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 201.4 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Ooltewah has preferred to attack from the air: they average 287.6 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for East Hamilton against Ooltewah in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-7 win. Do the Hurricanes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Owls turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
