The Whale Branch Warriors will head out on the road to challenge the Branchville Yellow Jackets at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Whale Branch is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
Last Saturday, Whale Branch was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-46 to Hampton County. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Whale Branch in their matchups with Hampton County: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite their loss, Whale Branch saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Laron Wright, who scored seven points, was perhaps the best of all. Bradford Thompson was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 11 rebounds and five steals.
Branchville posted their closest win yet this season last Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Allendale-Fairfax 46-43. The win was just what Branchville needed coming off of a 79-58 loss in their prior match.
Branchville found their leader in underclassman Kyran Glover, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Glover has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Jennings, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Whale Branch now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Branchville, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Whale Branch took their win against Branchville when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 72-51. Does Whale Branch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Branchville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
