The biggest upset of the week belonged to Vista, who took down 176th ranked El Camino, 30-7. Nate Johnson threw for 25 yards, ran for 131 yards and caught 1 pass for 33 yards during the win.
Fans got a thrill when Christian Chapman and Christopher Spiering connected against Poway. The connection went for 82 yards, the longest such play in Avocado - West this season.
Matthew Romero threw for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 10-14 with 0 interceptions.
Dylan Rutledge was a beast in the backfield as Carlsbad defeated the Titans.
Rutledge was a passing and rushing force as the Lancers defeated Poway.
Romero put up the best numbers in passing as Oceanside topped La Costa Canyon. Romero's favorite target this week was Mikah Holder, who caught 2 passes for 58 yards.
The Pirates' Romero and Holder have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Romero has thrown for 1,614 yards this season, while Holder has 25 catches for 815 yards. Rutledge from Carlsbad leads the league in rushing with 740 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Oceanside takes on the Wildcats. John Carroll's team is currently in first, while El Camino is in fourth.
Jace Whittaker of the Pirates ran for the longest rushing play in Avocado - West this season against the Mavericks last week. Whittaker scampered for 80 yards on the play and finished with 80 on the day as his team beat La Costa Canyon.
