After four games on the road, Havelock is heading back home. They will take on the D.H. Conley Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Friday, Havelock came up short against Northside - Jacksonville and fell 44-37.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Adaija Cypress, who scored six points along with seven steals. Nevaeh George was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 27-27 at halftime, D.H. Conley was not quite South Central's equal in the second half on Tuesday. D.H. Conley had to suffer through a rough 60-31 loss at the hands of South Central. While losing is never fun, D.H. Conley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while South Central is ranked 25th).
Despite the loss, D.H. Conley got a solid performance out of Ella Pierre-Louis, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks. Pierre-Louis has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Moira Skalak, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Havelock has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for D.H. Conley, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Havelock have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like D.H. Conley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 44.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Havelock was taken down by D.H. Conley 66-23 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Havelock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
