The Brunswick Academy Vikings waltzed into their game on Thursday with ten straight wins but they left with 11. They walked away with a 43-33 victory over Halifax Academy. Given Brunswick Academy's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 141st in Virginia, while the Vikings are ranked 291st in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brunswick Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emily King, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. King is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 15 games she's played. Haley Reese was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Hayden Barlow, who scored 12 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Karson Ricks, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Brunswick Academy pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Halifax Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
Brunswick Academy won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Amelia Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Halifax Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
