Even though the Basic Wolves scored an imposing 57 points on Thursday, the Valley Vikings still came out on top. Valley enjoyed a cozy 72-57 win over the Wolves. For Valley, this counts as revenge for the 67-66 loss the Wolves walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Elijah Flowers was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for ten straight games. Xavier Shufford was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Basic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Baltierrez, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Edwin Armentero, who scored six points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Basic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-16 record this season. As for Basic, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Bonanza the next time they take the court. Valley will host the Bengals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Wolves will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
