The Sissonville Indians will square off against the Nitro Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Sissonville gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 14-11 win over Lincoln.
Lydia Ellis was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Makynli Berrier, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs.
Sissonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nitro). They were the clear victors by a 25-10 margin over Wirt County on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
McKenzie Hyatt made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 5-for-5 with eight RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, Lyndi Campbell was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Lane, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Nitro pushed their record up to 8-12 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Sissonville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-11 record this season.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sissonville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like Nitro struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sissonville took their victory against Nitro in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 19-4 score. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
