The Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs will challenge the Southern Huntingdon County Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Claysburg-Kimmel knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Southern Huntingdon County likes a good challenge.
Claysburg-Kimmel lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Williamsburg, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Blue Pirates with a sharp 12-3 win on Monday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by nine runs or more this season.
Brayden Haney made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Haney was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He also put up a hit, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Nathan Cox and Mason Campagna did most of the damage at the plate: Cox scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Campagna got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one RBI. Those three runs gave Cox a new career-high.
Claysburg-Kimmel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Southern Huntingdon County lost 12-2 to Fannett Metal on Tuesday. The Rockets haven't had much luck with Fannett Metal recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Southern Huntingdon County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bronson Hoffman, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Claysburg-Kimmel's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Southern Huntingdon County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Claysburg-Kimmel's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Bulldogs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Southern Huntingdon County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Claysburg-Kimmel continue to outrun the ball?
Claysburg-Kimmel took their win against Southern Huntingdon County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
