Gadsden is 7-2 against San Elizario since February of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Gadsden Panthers will be playing at home against the San Elizario Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Gadsden knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully San Elizario likes a good challenge.
Gadsden is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Santa Teresa, who was ranked 18th at the time (Gadsden was ranked 21st). Gadsden came out on top against Santa Teresa by a score of 14-10 on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Desert Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Abygail Rodriguez, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-5. Those home runs marked the first that she launched this season. Chantal Ramirez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Rodriguez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Gadsden kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. Gadsden is 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, while it was San Elizario who put the first points on the board last Friday, it was Riverside who put up more. San Elizario came up short against Riverside, falling 13-4. The Eagles have struggled against the Rangers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meetings.
Abigail Rios put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and 11 unearned) runs off ten hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Victoria Fernandez and Shivanna VBromell stepped up to the plate in a big way. Fernandez scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while VBromell got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple and one stolen base.
Gadsden's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for San Elizario, their loss dropped their record down to 5-16-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gadsden hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .442. However, it's not like San Elizario struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gadsden might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from San Elizario when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Will Gadsden have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
