Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the South Fork Bulldogs walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 71-50 margin over the Panthers. Given South Fork's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Heritage is ranked 381st), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Nick Chang, who scored 21 points along with seven steals. He is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Loghan Downie, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Etienne Aime, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Aime is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last four games he's played. Keyshawn Williams was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
South Fork has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Heritage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season.
South Fork's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Viera at 6:00 p.m. on February 10th. Viera knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully South Fork likes a good challenge. Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
