The Center Grove Trojans will face off against the Crown Point Bulldogs at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Center Grove comes in on 16 and Crown Point on ten.
Center Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top against Floyd Central by a score of 5-1.
Riley Fuhr looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Barrett, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Addison Wolff, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Crown Point faced Penn in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Kingsmen.
Paige Liezert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Lulu Johnston was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Evi Cuevas, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one RBI.
Crown Point was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penn only posted a batting average of .185.
Crown Point's victory bumped their record up to 30-4. As for Center Grove, their win bumped their record up to 26-3.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Center Grove hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Crown Point struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
