Baseball Game Preview: Overland Trailblazers vs. Skyview Wolverines

For the first time this season, Overland will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Skyview Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Overland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Overland took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They never let Hinkley get on the board and left with a 20-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Trailblazers considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Uriel Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hernandez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Matthew Jimenez-Solis was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing seven bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Overland's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brayan Ascensio, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Overland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Skyview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Adams City.

Skyview's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Overland, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-5 record.
