Two dominant forwards in JLynn Mitchell and Ruby Cartwright are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Torres Toros will head out to square off against the Sunnyside Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Torres is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games.
Torres' offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Friday, when they got past McLane's usually-dominant defense. Torres simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat McLane 59-15. With that victory, the Toros brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.

It was another big night for Mitchell, who went 10 of 20 en route to 23 points and six steals. She has been hot recently, having posted five or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ariana Garcia, who posted eight points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.
Torres smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in November of 2023.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sunnyside). They managed a 53-47 win over Porterville last Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Torres better keep an eye on Cartwright. She was instrumental in Sunnyside's win, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 14 boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Cartwright has scored at least a third of Sunnyside's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Kirah Standifer, who had seven points.
Torres pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.4 points per game. As for Sunnyside, their victory ended an 11-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Torres has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 22.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Torres skirted past Sunnyside 46-43 when the teams last played back in February. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cartwright, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 16 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Torres still be able to contain Cartwright? There's only one way to find out.
