The Sonora Broncos's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to Sterling City. While losing is never fun, Sonora can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1282nd, while Sterling City is ranked 473rd).
Several Broncos players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kameryn Aguero, who scored 17 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Aguero has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Evan Arredondo, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Sonora bumped their record down to 9-12 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Sterling City, their victory bumped their record up to 19-3.
Sonora will head out on the road to take on Ozona at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ozona has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Sterling City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Reagan County at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Reagan County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully Sterling City likes a good challenge.
