Mapletown is 2-8 against Bentworth since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Mapletown Maples just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Bentworth Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with seven consecutive losses apiece.
On Tuesday, Mapletown came up short against Monessen and fell 59-48. While losing is never fun, Mapletown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 762nd, while Monessen is ranked 359th).
Meanwhile, Bentworth pushed their score all the way to 57 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 66-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bethlehem Center.
Ben Hays put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 33 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Christopher Harper, who scored 11 points.
Mapletown has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season. As for Bentworth, they dropped their record down to 3-16 with that loss, which was their ninth straight at home.
Mapletown suffered a grim 69-44 defeat to Bentworth when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hays, who scored 25 points along with five rebounds.
