Elkmont is 1-7 against East Limestone since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Red Devils will venture away from home to challenge the Indians at 10:00 a.m. Elkmont has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Elkmont managed to slip by Whitesburg Christian Academy the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Devils came up short against the Warriors on Thursday, falling 13-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Red Devils have suffered since March 27th.
Elkmont saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryant Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, East Limestone posted their closest victory since February 21st on Thursday. They skirted past Ardmore 6-4. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.
Will Starr looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Chris Fitts was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Matthew Drake was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.
East Limestone's record now sits at 20-8. As for Elkmont, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 21-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Elkmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like East Limestone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
