Pleasant Grove is 8-2 against Franklin since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Pleasant Grove will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Pleasant Grove gave up the first runs last Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Cosumnes Oaks by a score of 6-2.
Madeline Lawson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lila Rooney, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Brozaitis, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Franklin faced off against Laguna Creek on Wednesday. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cardinals, sneaking past 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Franklin also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Leilani Garcia gave up three earned runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Franklin let Julissa Sandoval and Kalani Phearson run wild. Sandoval went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Phearson went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Franklin hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Pleasant Grove's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, their record is now 14-10-1.
Franklin's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Pleasant Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Franklin, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Pleasant Grove keep running through batters, or will the Wildcats buck the trend?
Everything went Pleasant Grove's way against Franklin when the teams last played back in April, as Pleasant Grove made off with a 9-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
