Big Valley has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Hayfork Timberjacks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Big Valley strolled past the Tigers with points to spare, taking the game 49-35.
Among those leading the charge was Josue Barba, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor Kenobbie, who scored two points along with nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hayfork scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 87-59 victory over Tulelake on the road. Hayfork has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 20 points or more this season.
Hayfork found their leader in underclassman Levi Cavalli, who almost dropped a triple-double on 33 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cavalli has scored all season. Daniel Kasper was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.
Big Valley's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-9. As for Hayfork, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Big Valley have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Hayfork struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Big Valley suffered a grim 69-45 defeat to the Timberjacks when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cavalli, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 16 rebounds.
