The Breese Central Cougars will take on the Marissa/Coulterville Meteors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Breese Central let Civic Memorial stack four runs on them in the first inning on Saturday but luckily Breese Central prevailed anyway. The Cougars skirted past the Eagles 6-4.
Lily Lappe spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Taylor Trame was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abie Huber, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Breese Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 3-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Marissa/Coulterville entered their tilt with Civic Memorial on Saturday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Meteors have posted since May 2, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Kennedy Trieb, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Reilly Reid, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Marissa/Coulterville pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Breese Central, their victory bumped their record up to 7-19.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Breese Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Marissa/Coulterville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Breese Central couldn't quite get it done against Marissa/Coulterville when the teams last played on Saturday as they fell 10-5. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
